Black pad and other quality issues associated with Electroless Nickel and ENIG laminates have mushroomed in recent years as PCBs are sourced from overseas or through distributors. This test allows engineers and PCB buyers to assess and maintain the quality of their incoming Gold over Nickel printed circuit boards.

The ENIG Quality Health Check consists of checking the cleanliness of the laminate; taking thickness measurements of the Gold and Nickel; microsectioning the laminate to check the number of layers; and the chemical removal of the Gold to inspect the surface of the Nickel layer. The cost for this service is £500 + VAT.
