A great technique for viewing cracks in solder joints that are not visible using X-ray inspection however the technique is destructive.

The solder joint area is soaked in a penetrating dye. This penetrates into any cracks. The dye is then allowed to dry. The part is then prised off the PCB to reveal dye in the original crack.
