Legislation Overview

The key legislative driver for implementation of lead-free soldering technology in Europe is the RoHS Directive banning the use of six hazardous substances, including lead, in certain electronic and electrical products. Since July 2006 the majority of specified categories of equipment must be lead-free. The parallel Directive is the WEEE Directive, covering the collection, reuse and recycling of waste electronic and electrical products.
